CAREERS IN AEROSPACE

Northrop Grumman

Defense. Aerospace. Cyberspace.

Northrop Grumman Corporation, headquartered in Los Angeles, is a world-class, high-technology company providing innovative solutions in defense electronics, information technology and systems integration, including manned and unmanned military aircraft design and development, for its U.S. and international military, government and commercial customers.

In demand as a prime contractor, principal subcontractor, team member or preferred supplier, the company plays a major role in some of the world’s most advanced weapons systems and technologies. With $7.6 billion in 1999 revenues Northrop Grumman’s growth strategy is led by an experienced leadership team and executed by a global workforce of approximately 39,000 employees.

Northrop Grumman operates through three business sectors: the Integrated Systems Sector (ISS), based in Dallas, Texas.; the Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3), headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland., and Logicon Inc., its information technology sector, based in Herndon, Virginia.

Sharing Our Knowledge

Northrop Grumman has long realized that tomorrow’s business and technology leaders are the young people of today. From Baltimore to Los Angeles, Northrop Grumman employees take the time to teach and inspire young people. The company offers an extensive mentoring program that gives students valuable career training and insights. Two educational programs are particularly notable, but are only a fraction of the company’s total commitment to community education.

The company’s nationally recognized High School Involvement Partnership (HIP) provides paid internships during the summer months to help students “learn by doing.” In addition to HIP, another innovative educational outreach effort is the IEEE-developed Discover “E” program, aimed at encouraging middle and high school students to consider engineering and math-related career fields.

Embracing People

The company’s successes are due in large part to the outstanding quality of its people who design, develop and produce systems critical to protecting our cherished freedoms. Northrop Grumman is a stronger company today because of its diverse workforce, projects and experiences.

The company emphasizes numerous diversity initiatives, all aimed at keeping a sharp focus on recruiting a diverse workforce. These activities include strong support for Northrop Grumman’s affirmative action and equal employment opportunity (EEO) program; continuing diversity and EEO awareness and training; and mentoring programs and diversity teams at its three sectors.

Company employees treat each other with respect, recognizing the significant contributions that come from the diversity of individuals and ideas. Northrop Grumman creates an environment of teamwork, openness, challenge and development.

“To remain among the best in the world at what we do, we must operate collectively to the highest possible standard,” said Kent Kresa, Northrop Grumman chairman, president and chief executive officer. “That’s why we define diversity at Northrop Grumman as full utilization of our people at all levels of the company. We must use our inherent diversity as a competitive advantage. In order to be competitive in today’s global marketplace, each employee must look for appropriate ways to take advantage of our diversity in serving our customers and shareholders.”

“I want employees to make full use of our diversity in accomplishing our goals,” he continued, “because without everyone’s efforts our goals are more difficult to achieve. Diversity is no longer an optional activity, but a business necessity.”
