recognized by HENAAC The Hispanic National Achievement
Awards Conference (HENAAC) has announced Dr. Irving Wladawsky-Berger
as the 2001 Hispanic Engineer of the Year and Patricia
Romero Cronin as the first woman engineer to win the Executive
Excellence Award. Both will be recognized during the HENAAC
Awards ceremony in October. |

the Peak of Technology Seven top IBM Scientists
receive IBM's most prestigious technical honor. The IBM
Fellows include some of the industry's top experts in
server technology, storage systems design, data management,
data compression, laptop development and microelectronics.
Since the IBM Fellows program began in 1963, only 165

Motors Takes Strong Stand on Diversity Issues
General Motors Corporation filed a legal brief in support
of the University of Michigan as it fights two lawsuits
attacking the schools use of affirmative action policies
in the student admissions process. Rod Gillium, GM's
Vice President of Corporate Relations and Diversity
states "It is absolutely essential for our employees
to be racially, culturally and ethnically diverse to
understand our customer bases in each country, and to
position the company accordingly."

Truck Project...Developing Greener SUV's... In
a joint government-industry project by the U.S. Department
of Energy and General Motors Corporation, Future Truck
, a competitive student program, was developed to tame
the SUV's environmental impact making it a "greener"

OF EVENTS The National Atomic Museum in partnership
with Lockheed Martin and Sandia National Laboratories'
Hispanic Leadership and Outreach Committee are celebrating
Hispanic Heritage Month with a new annual traveling
exhibit entitled, "Hispanics in Science." This exciting
new exhibit will open with a gala ceremony at the National
Atomic Museum this fall and after being on display for
the Heritage Celebration of 30 days, will begin to travel
to universities and communities in New Mexico.
